the king of my tacos

King Taco

verdict: omg, i love it!

hot damn this place is delicious!! i've been coming here regularly and always, always order their sope. i could never resist this delectable circle of fried masa topped with limey carne asada. you will be in hog heaven as well when you take your first bite of a crispy king taco sope! recently, i also started ordering their nachos. love the crispy tortilla chips, limey carne asada..and get this, a generous squirt of the oozing nacho cheese that you get at the movie theatres or ballgames. i loves it! it really speaks to the trailer trash side of me. unfortunately for my waistline, the nachos has become a regular order as well. their horchata and champurrado is tasty and goes well with the grease bombs you've just ordered. whether excessively oily or excessively tasty, king taco keeps me happily fed. here's to more eating in 2009! salut!

the only time cheese whiz is acceptable.

a vegetarian taco...oxy moron?

Hugo's Tacos
3300 Glendale Blvd
Atwater Village, CA 90039

verdict: tasty, try it!

hugo's tacos had an all out free food invitational for two hours when they first opened. the manager that worked the lines said it was for "practice." i guess they are training their employees at this new site since hugo's have multiple locations and the one in atwater village is a new addition. my sis and i booked ass to atwater village for some free eats! oh yea!

what makes them stand out from the other taco stands are their organic and vegetarian options. i got the torta ahogada which was phenomenal. the ahogada is a sandwich filled with organic white beans, guac, tomatoes, onions, some kind of mayo, and your pick of meats. i got the carne...never can go wrong with carne. the whole torta is then glazed with this sweet chipotle sauce and grilled to give the bread a nice sweet crust. yummmm. and their horchata was pretty tasty, too. not too sweet. overall pretty delicious. and because this entire meal was FREE, it was EXTRA DELICIOUS.

and i don't understand why people are so pissed about this place, other than the fact that some white guy is trying to make tacos. look, don't think of it as authentic mexican food. think of it as a place you go to when you want to eat organic that looks like a taco.

lose los cobanos because good grub ain't here

Los Cobanos Restaurant & Delivery
2927 W Sunset Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90026

verdict: not worth my time

it's not the best mexican restaurant you can find, but an average place to fill up on beans and rice when you hunger. i've had their pupusas (cheese/cheese and pork) and find it average. soft outsides without the nice crustiness that i like in other papusas. i've also had their tacos which is really greasy and somewhat chewy even though it's the hard shell kind. makes you wonder where the magic of taco making went missing when they created their's. the horchata is good though but will that carry the food? no.
