verdict: tasty, try it!

phoenix bakery reminds me of my grandma. she's gone now, but i remember her treating my cousins and i to these iced gingerbread cookies from phoenix. my favorite one was the dinosaur cookie with the green icing. it use to turn my teeth green after i ate it. ahhh, the good old days when my teeth were green and not yellow.

i've tried various pastries there since that tender age and hands down, the only items i will still get on a regular basis are their strawberry cakes, honey drizzled bowties, and their apricot or cherry centered cookies. their strawberry cakes are infamous and for good reason. they are soft, spongy, with an amazing whipped frosting that is lightly sweetened. makes you want to rub that frosting all over something as equally delicious so you can slowly lick it off. mmmm....

they have many other kinds of pasteries of course, but they all pale in comparison to their strawberry cake, and typically look better than they taste. anyways, just get the strawberry cake...yum, you'll be rubbing it all over your body pretty soon and you won't have any problems getting someone to lick that frosting off. seriously. but if you do, i'll lick it off for you.

viktor!!! where have you been all my life?! if i only knew you were nestled in the gelson's on hyperion, just waiting for me to find you, i would have come to you so much sooner!!! so, so much sooner!!

my first taste was your yummy rugalah cookies. they were flaky and tart. yuummm....then i tried your chantilly cookies which i prefer to call "tubes of heaven." ooh, what a sweet treat with chocolate cream inside, sealed on both ends with melted chocolate dipped in sprinkles. your scones are pretty amazing too...i have a feeling that i will be visiting you often...especially after my weekly trader joes run. it won't feel right if i don't drop in and get some cookies, too.

viktor, i think we will be friends for a very long time.....

bag o' cookies. flakey, chewy, chocolatey, and 100% yummy!

verdict: omg, i love it!

to me, diddy riese meant a late night sweet run when i was an undergrad at ucla. it also meant looking for loose change in my backpack and standing in outrageous lines waiting to pick up THE CHEAPEST dessert treat in town.

many, many years later, diddy riese meant getting a ticket for jay walking. it is still yummy, but watch out for those westwood cops. if you THINK you can just walk across the street from bj's, DON'T. your ass will get an ice cream sandwich AND a ticket.
